Tammy (5)
"2/3rds Funny"
I laughed out loud - twice in the first 30 minutes. The First hour is a well written, fast paced comedy. Great star cameos. At the 60 minute mark - it comes out of the closet, gets menopausal and preachy. Mark Duplasss does a great job of selling an unlikely romance. Women will love it - but can't recommenced it to my football buddies. Watch the first hour with your boyfriend, then send him for Pizza while you watch the end.
Skip the Trailer (Spoilers) if you're going to Watch it

MUST MISS!
Jersey Boys (0)
"Don't Waste Your Time or Money!
I was looking forward to watching this. Then I hit play. I wanted to hit stop after 5 minutes and tapped out after 15. The acting is horrible. Even worse - the Star that plays Frankie Valli Can't Sing! The direction of the film is rushed, assumptive, and gives you no reason to care about any of the characters. Perhaps Eastwood is better suited to talking to empty chairs than directing these days. What a piece of garbage. Wouldn't watch it Free on Cable.

New Releases Oct 2014

Wish I Was Here (5)
"A Slow Roller Coaster"
That is the best way I can describe this film.
Zach Braff and Kate Hudson star as a struggling, middle class married couple.
Good cast, decent script. Not many laugh out load moments.
The dialogue is probably the weakest link. But down to earth and interesting.

Begin Again (6)
"Entertaining"
This is a fun little film about a down and out Music Producer. Decent cast and script.
Worth $5 for a little escape. I mean, that's about the price of a Quarter Pounder meal at McD.
This is a little better quality and wont leave you feeling as bloated.

1000 Times Good Night (9)
"Powerfull"
Most people won't see this film. The Trailer seems slow and depressing. There is no sexy leading lady.  Even I questioned the casting. The wife is too old for the husband. Twenty minutes in - you realize Binoche "is" Christiane Amanpour. The part could not have been played by a younger actress. This is reality.  Life seen through the eyes of war photographer and the aftermath that comes with the job.  In a world of Tweets and sound bites, this is home made bread. It takes time to make and you have to be patient, but if you are, there is actually something for the butter to melt into. It was worth the time you spent.

SuperMensch (9)
The Legend of Shep Gordon
A back stage pass into the life of the most influential entertainment manager of all time.
This documentary traces the rags to riches story of Shep Gordon.
Broke and out of work, he bumps into Joplin and Hendricks.
The rest is history. If you're a superstar, you already know him.
This film is for the rest of us. Don't miss it.

Million Dollar Arm (7)
It's OK to Feel Good
The Scout meets Draft Day, meets Slum Dog Millionaire. Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Asif Mandvi, Lake Bell and Alan Arkin round out a fine cast. There is a refreshing morality to this film. It does not play like an afternoon special, but you don't need to send the kids out of the room either. In fact, confiscate their cell phones and make them watch it with you. It is simply a tale about morality and characters untainted by dirty sports laundry and 60 second YouTube fails. The best part is -  it's completely true. Every character is real. They didn't even change the names. They say truth is stranger than fiction. In this case - its better too.

NOT FUNNY Sex Tape
Take "This is 40" add a sex tape, remove all the clever, hilarious dialogue, and you have Sex Tape. The film is interesting and not a bad way to spend 90 minutes. Just don't expect a comedy or you will be disappointed. The best acting in the film involves a spoiler. Let's just say that Diaz nails a scene in which she becomes hyperactive.

MUST MISS: A Million Ways to Die in the West
Unless you're 12 and love poop and blood. The production and cinematography was top notch.
Giovana Ribsi was great as always - Silverman was Silverman. Theron and Neeson wasted their talent on this piece of crap. Not worth watching free on cable in a few months either.

MUST MISS: Good People
I like Hudson and Franco. The script and cast are decent. However, the whole film just seemed phoned in - from a vacation in England. Just didn't work. Worth a look for free on Stars or wherever in a few months - but not worth $599.

More Moves this month - Coming soon.

New Releases Sept 2014

Chef (9)
Wanna Get Away?
This is a Delicious 2 hour Ride. Every reality show tries to take you behind the scenes of somebody's life. This lighthearted film does a much better job. It has substance, humor, drama and an all star cast. Call it therapy or a Business Lunch. Write the $5.99 off your taxes.
This is an extended Trailer - Just Rent it and avoid the Spoilers in the preview.

Life of Crime (9)
Need a Little Action?
Roger Egert called this Jennifer Aniston's best performance. Watching this was like being pushed off a cliff and hitting bed pillows all the way down. Mos Def was mesmerizing. Tim Robins, John Hawks and a brilliant script (Based on a Elmore Leonard Novel) kidnapped me for 90 minutes.

Draft Day (6)
Second Round Pick
I had reservations, but, the impending Daft Day, as a back story - worked. Whether you are a sports fan or not - You find yourself captivated - as the day approaches and the stories unwind. Good performances by Costner and Garner, along with a well written script, make it a decent escape.
